Eckhoff Named America East Diver of the Week for Fourth Time in 2011-12
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – UMBC swimming and diving junior Andrew Eckhoff (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) was named the America East Male Diver of the Week for the fourth time this season, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Eckoff, who last won this weekly award on Nov. 1 after breaking the school record for the 3mtr dive (354.30), picked up his fifth event win of the season against Howard on Saturday. At the meet in Washington, D.C., the junior won the only diving competition of the day, the 1mtr spring board, with a score of 322.13.
With his two scores from the Towson meet, Eckhoff has already qualified for the NCAA Zones meet for both events. The regional meet will be held in early March.
Eckoff's award marks the tenth time that a Retriever has been named either Swimmer or Diver of the Week during the 2011-12 season. Senior Abbey McKenney (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) and junior Pierre De Waal (Pretoria, South Africa/Tuks Sport/Cleveland State) have each been named Swimmer of the Week twice.
UMBC concludes its home slate for the season this Saturday when the Retrievers host local rivals Loyola and Towson at 1 p.m. In addition, the swimming and diving team will be hosting Senior/Alumni Day at the UMBC Natatorium.
