MC ELLIGOTT, WELLS, ADAMS ALL EARN SOCCER HONORS

UMBC freshmen Derek McElligott earned NEC Rookie of the Week and the ECAC Player of the Week awards for his play this past week. In addition, Retriever senior defender Andy Wells earned a spot on the Collegesoccer.com team of the week for September 30th and Assistant Coach Anthony Adams was recognized by the aforementioned web site as one of the top assistant coaches in the nation. McElligott has eight goals in nine games, and scored a hat trick in UMBC's 4-0 win over Central Connecticut on Friday. All three goals came in the second half, as did an assist on George Bakoulas' insurance goal. McElligott is currently second in the South Atlantic region in both scoring and goals scored. Wells earned his honor for scoring his 15th career goal on his birthday, a score just 1:40 into overtime which gave UMBC a crucial 2-1 win over Quinnipiac. Coach Adams, a four-year starting defender at UMBC (1992-95) is in his fifth year as Pete Caringi's top assistant. He has helped the Retrievers recruit the players that have brought national rankings to the program in both 1999 and 2000.
