Ho Tallies Twice, as No. 23 Men's Soccer Overwhelms Host Radford, 4-1

Radford, Va.- UMBC junior midfielder Stephen Ho (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) scored a pair of goals and the 23rd-ranked Retrievers outscored host Radford, 3-0, in the second half and overwhelmed the Highlanders, 4-1, at Cupp Stadium.
The Retrievers improved to 5-0-0 on the season and won in their first road game of the campaign. Radford slipped to 1-2-1.
UMBC, which entered the game tied for third in the nation in goals scored, has registered 16 goals in its first five contests.
Ho opened the scoring in the 19th minute, picking up a 50/50 ball 45 yards away from goal. He beat a trio of Radford defenders on the right side, broke in on goal and beat RU netminder Dane Wilson with a low shot inside the far post.
But the hosts equalized the score less than two minutes later as Jamie Summers scored his first goal of the season.
The game went to the half knotted at 1-1, but Ho cashed in on the game-winner just 110 seconds into the second half. Senior forward Pete Caringi III (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall) played a through pass from the center of the field to junior midfielder Geaton Caltabiano (Lothian, Md./Mount St. Joseph) on the left side. Caltabiano one-timed a cross to towards the right post and Ho knocked it into an unguarded net from point-blank range.
UMBC junior back Oumar Ballo (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored his first career goal off a corner kick to extend the visitors’ lead in the 67th minute. Caltabiano sent the corner toward the far right post and Ballo headed it just under the crossbar on the near side.
Senior midfielder Kadeem Dacres completed the surge and gave UMBC its first four-goal output of the season. Dacres corralled a loose ball inside the center circle and drove right, dodging several Highlander defenders, before burying his second goal of the season inside the left post.
UMBC outshot Radford, 17-5 ,and amassed 11 corner kicks in 90 minutes. Retriever senior goalkeeper Phil Saunders (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) recorded the win, but did not make a save in the contest. Wilson went the distance in net for RU and was credited with four saves.
The Retrievers have now gone 14 consecutive games without a loss (11-0-3) dating back to last season.
UMBC returns home to welcome Navy to Retriever Soccer Park on Tuesday evening.
Notes: Ho entered the contest with only one career goal, but now has seven points (2-3-7) on the season,.. Caltabiano recorded two assists in the game, matching his season high registered in the opener versus Seattle… UMBC evened the series with Radford at 5-5-1.
