Men's Soccer: Bulls, Welsh Named to NSCAA Northeast Regional Squad
Andrew Bulls earned three NSCAA honors in his tenure at UMBC.
Kansas City, Kan.- Senior midfielder Andrew Bulls (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and sophomore fullback Daniel Welsh (Fife, Scotland/Stewart’s Melville College) were named to the 2011 Performance Subaru National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division I Men’s Soccer All-Northeast Region Third Team.
It was the third consecutive year that Bulls received an NSCAA postseason award and the third consecutive year that UMBC had multiple honorees.
Bulls earned first team honors as a forward in 2009 and was cited as a second team forward in 2010. Levi Houapeu earned second team honors as a midfielder in 2009 and first team accolades at striker in 2010, while defender Chris Williams was named to the second team in 2009.
Bulls became just the second Retriever in the nine-year history of UMBC’s tenure in America East to earn three first team honors after receiving All-Rookie Team recognition in 2008.He became the first player in school history to record 30 goals (33) and 30 assists (30) in a career and his 96 career points are currently fourth on the Retriever all-time list.
The America East has recognized Welsh in both of his campaigns at UMBC, naming him to the All-Rookie squad in 2010 and to the league’s second team in 2011. The dynamic central back started all 14 games he dressed for this season after making 15 starts in UMBC’s title campaign a year ago.
