Levi Houapeu Becomes UMBC's Second NSCAA/Performance Subaru Division I All American
Levi Houapeu finished sixth in the nation in goals per game.
Capping a brilliant season on the field, and a bevy of post-season awards, UMBC’s Levi Houapeu (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) has been named a 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men's NCAA Division I Third Team All-American.
The senior forward became the first Retriever to earn the citation from the sport’s governing body since Bobby Wagner earned Second Team honors in 1993.
“This is a great and well-deserved honor for Levi,” head coach Pete Caringi said.
“There is no question in my mind that he was one of the best players… in the country all year long. Everyone here is excited about it.”
Houapeu has completed his final exams for the semester and is preparing for the Major League Soccer Combine, which will take place from Jan. 7-11 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The 2011 MLS Super Draft will be held in Baltimore on January 13.
The players who earned first, second and third team NSCAA citations will be honored at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held at the Hilton Baltimore Hotel on Saturday, Jan. 15, as part of the 2011 NSCAA Convention.
In the final NCAA Division I men’s soccer statistics, Houapeu finished 6th in the nation in goals per game (0.75), seventh in total goals (15) and total points (34) and 9th in points per game (1.7).
