10/15/2002
Senior goalkeeper Brian Rowland is turning away shots and turning some heads toward UMBC.Rowland was named to College Soccer News' Team of the Week for the week which ended on October 13. He is tied for second in the South Atlantic region with a 0.96 goals against average and leads the NEC with six shutouts. His resurgence has led the Retrievers to a 6-1-2 run in the last nine games. "Brian has been an impact player from the very beginning," said UMBC Head Coach Pete Caringi, who recorded his 300th collegiate victory earlier this season. "He is the hardest-working goalkeeper I've ever been associated with. He got off to a bit of a slow start, but he's on fire right now, as good as any goalkeeper in the country. The momentum we have right now is directly attributable to him because he never got down early in the season. He is a very confident player."
