Nirav Kadam was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week

UMBC freshman forward Pete Caringi III (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) was named America East Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie-of-the-Week it was announced today.

In addition, junior midfielder Nirav Kadam (Germantown, Md./Northwest/UNCG) was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Team of the Week.

The son of Retriever head coach Pete Caringi, Jr., scored a pair of goals in his collegiate debut, helping UMBC to a 5-3 victory over VMI on Sept. 2. He entered the game late in the first half and promptly converted a Kingsley Onwuka (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood/CCBC-Essex) crossing pass in the 37th minute to give the Retrievers a 3-0 lead heading into intermission.

VMI cut the lead to 4-2, but Caringi briefly restored a three goal lead, converting a rebound of an Andrew Bulls (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) shot in the 82nd minute.

His two-goal effort in his debut was the first since Matt Curran scored twice in a 10-0 season-opening rout of NJIT in 2004.

In his first two UMBC appearances, Kadam led the Retrievers with a pair of goals and two assists in the two games. He was credited with the game-winning goal vs. VMI and added the insurance marker in the 78th minute vs. Wofford.

Kadam drew assist on UMBC’s first two goals of the season. The UNC Greensboro transfer was named to the UMBC/Navy Kick-Off Tournament's All-Tournament team.
