12/11/2009

KANSAS CITY, Kan.--UMBC sophomore forward Andrew Bulls (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) was named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Northeast Region First Team. Junior midfielder Levi Houapeu (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) and junior defender Chris Williams (Calvert Hall/Baltimore, Md.) each earned Second Team honors.

The Retrievers’ selections are the first since Kevin Mezzadra earned All South Atlantic Region Third Team honors in 2006. The three honorees tie for the most in school history. Forwards Giuliano Celenza (Third Team) and Ty Engram (Second Team) and back Andy Wells (Third Team) earned honors in 1999, and Celenza (First Team), Wells (Second Team) and midfielder Matt Gormley (Second Team) were feted in 2000.

Bulls is UMBC’s first player to receive First Team honors since Wells did so as a senior in 2001. He scored 15 goals and added 11 assists in his second collegiate season. Houapeu scored 15 goals and added 13 assists, while Williams solidified a young UMBC defense.
