Houapeu Named ECAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year; Honors Pour in For Houapeu, Bulls

CAPE COD, Mass. –UMBC junior midfielder Levi Houapeu (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) was named the 2009 ECAC Division I men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Year, it was announced on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Houapeu also earned ECAC First All-Star team as a midfielder, along with his teammate, sophomore forward Andrew Bulls (Millersville, Md./McDonogh). Houapeu earned the nation’s largest athletic conference’s top honor after accumulating 43 points during the 2009 season. The America East Midfielder of the Year tallied 15 goals, 13 assists and three game-winning goals for the Retrievers this season while leading UMBC to a 14-6 record. Bulls amassed 41 points this season, netting 15 goals, eight of which were game-winners, and adding 11 assists. He also earned America East Striker of the Year honors.
Moreover, both Houapeu and Bulls were named to Goal.com's Team of the Year, as each earned Second Team honors.
