RETRIEVER SOCCER SET TO VISIT SCOTLAND

6/17/2002

The UMBC men's soccer team will visit Scotland in the pre-season this August, marking the first time a Retriever team has traveled overseas for training or competition. Pete Caringi's squad will depart Baltimore on Wednesday, August 14th. They are scheduled to play four games on Friday, August 16, Sunday, August 18th, Monday, August 19th, and Wednesday, August 21st. UMBC returns on Thursday, August 22nd, and will open their season the following Friday, August 30th, when they host Hofstra in the opening game of the Kappa Kick-Off Classic. One of the teams UMBC is slated to meet is the Glasgow Rangers, one of the top teams in Scotland."This should be a great trip for the players," said Coach Caringi. "We have a young team and to play some quality teams will help us out a great deal. Normally, you would take a more seasoned, veteran squad overseas, but we have taken the opposite approach. Hopefully, it will help us reach our goals for the season."
