Washington, D.C.--The UMBC men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to four as the Retrievers blanked host Howard, 4-0 in the team's final non-conference game of the season.

UMBC is 3-0-1 in its last four games and now 8-4-3 on the season. The Bison dropped to 3-4-5. The Retrievers posted their 10th shutout in 15 games this season as netminders Steve King (three saves) and Matt Henderson (zero saves) combined on the shutout.

The game could have gotten off to a trying start as Howard was awarded a penalty kick chance midway through the first half. But Lamar Hyde's attempt in the 30th minute was stopped by King. Less than two minutes later, at the 31:00-minute mark, freshman B.J. Quigley's (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) deep throw in was headed out by a Bison defender. But in spectacular fashion, freshman midfielder Sean Rothe (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) volleyed the ball out of the air and into the lower right corner of the net from 25 yards out. The score was Rothe's second of the season.

UMBC took that lead into intermission, but would tack on three second half goals. Less than five minutes into the half, sophomore forward Andrew Gillis (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) sent a ball through to junior midfielder Kevin Gnatiko (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill), who beat netminder Victor Thomas into the lower left corner of the cage.

UMBC scored its third goal in the 67th minute as Quigley scored his fourth goal of the season after beating a pair of Bison defenders and then Thomas inside the near right post. The Retrievers finalized the scoring in the 74th minute as junior Matt Ward (Glen Arm, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored from 15 yards away, beating Thomas to his right.

The Retrievers get back to America East play when they visit the Boston University Terriers on Saturday
