Men's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision at Lehigh
9/19/2007
The Retrievers drop to 3-2-1, while Lehigh, a team which reached the final 16 of the NCAA Tournament last year, won its fourth straight game.
UMBC had not allowed a first half goal since the season opener vs. Air Force. But Lehigh sophomore striker Kyle Evans scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season in the 14th and 26th minutes of play. The Retrievers had a great chance to cut the lead in half in the 32nd minute, but Dan Bulls’ free kick from just outside the box, skimmed off the crossbar and out of play.
The Mountain Hawks added a goal just before halftime to take a 3-0 advantage at the break.
The Retrievers came out strong in the second half, but were unable to get on the board and suffered their first shutout loss of the season. Junior goalkeeper Steve King made three saves, all in the second half, before giving way to sophomore Matt Henderson, who made his debut in the UMBC nets in the 77th minute.
Lehigh outshot UMBC, 9-7 and had three corners to one for UMBC.
The Retrievers return home to entertain James Madison on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
