ANDY WELLS NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION

UMBC senior defender Andy Wells (Essex, England) earned First Team All South Atlantic Region honors, as selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Wells had earned Second Team All South Atlantic honors a season ago, Third Team honors in 1999, and will now stand for national recognition with his latest honor. He wrapped up his career by earned First Team All Northeast Conference honors in all four seasons at UMBC. The Retriever sweeper had a brilliant career, highlighted by leading one of the nation's top defenses in 1999 to UMBC's first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance. Despite playing a defensive position, Wells managed to score 16 career goals and add 7 assists for 39 points. Four of his five goals this year were game-winning goals, and he was successful on 11 of 13 career penalty kicks.
