9/23/2005

Kevin Mezzadra had the game-winning goal vs.Mt. St. Mary's on Wednesday.

The UMBC men’s soccer team (3-3-1) will open America East Conference play this Saturday, September 24 as they travel to West Hartford, Connecticut to take on the Hartford Hawks (2-4-1). The Retrievers are 3-1-1 since an 0-2 start, averaging 2.4 goals per game in that stretch. Hartford has dropped three straight, all by the same 2-0 decisions to Navy, Cornell and Sacred Heart.

The Retrievers feature one of the league’s hottest players in junior midfielder Kevin Mezzadra. The local product has a pair of two-goal efforts in his last four outings, and leads the squad with five goals. His previous season high was three goals in 2003. All five of Mezzadra’s goals have occurred at home this season.

UMBC has won both meetings since the Retrievers joined the America East Conference in 2003, triumphing, 3-0, in West Hartford that season, and earning a 1-0 win in Baltimore last year. The all-time series stands at 2-0-1.
