MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
10/31/2001
George Mason's (7-8) Laszlo Juhasz scored in the ninth minute of play, and the Patriots made the lead stand up, as they edged UMBC (9-5-2), 1-0, in the Retrievers' final game of the regular season. Head Coach Pete Caringi, searching for career win #300, started all five seniors who dressed for the game. UMBC attacked constantly in the second half, outshooting the hosts, 9-5, and taking 13 corner kicks in the final 45 minutes, but were blanked for the first time this season. Senior Tom Wunk played all 90 minutes in goal, and recorded a pair of saves. Freshman Derek McElligott led both squads with five shots. The Retrievers open play in the four-team NEC Tournament a week from Friday at Quinnipiac University. The match-ups have not yet been determined.
