PENNACCHIA NAMED AMERICA EAST CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Retriever senior defender Mike Pennacchia (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) has been named co-America East Player of the Week for the week ending September 12. He shared the award with Binghamton sophomore midfielder Bryan Arnault.

Pennacchia, who started all 58 games in a UMBC uniform, recorded his first multi-goal and first multi-point game (2g, 1a) of his career in UMBC’s 3-0 win over Mt. St. Mary’s The senior back’s lead pass found Derek McElligott (Baltimore, Md./Greater Grace) , whose GWG gave UMBC a 1-0 edge in the 17^th minute. Then Pennacchia converted a PK in the 28^th minute after David Feazell (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) was taken down in the box, and he banged home a short Powell Cucchiella (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) feed from close range to cap the scoring in the 38^th minute. Pennacchia entered the season with 1 goal and 3 assists, and has 3 goals and 2 assists through the first three games of the 2004 season.
