PENNACCHIA TURNS INTO SCORING STAR AS MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS MT. ST. MARY'S, 3-0

Two goals and an assist from Mike Pennacchia led the UMBC men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Mount St. Mary's at the Mount St. Mary's Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Mount drops to 0-3-1on the season while UMBC improves to 2-0-1.

UMBC scored first when Derek McElligott corraled a long pass
from Pennacchia, beat a Mount defender, and buried a shot just inside
the left post for his fourth goal of the season 16:01 into the game.

After a UMBC player was fouled in the penalty box in the 27th minute,
Pennacchia converted the penalty kick for his first goal of the game. At
the 37:43 mark of the first half, Pennacchia notched his second goal
when he collected the ball after a scramble in front of the net and beat
Mount goalkeeper Gladimir Elysee for the final goal of the game.

The Mount held a 12-10 advantage in shots in the game. UMBC
goalkeepers Andy Marchica and Josh Osit each made a save in combining
for the shutout.
