Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC Retrievers (10-2-5, 5-1-3 AEC) have clinched the No. 1 seed for the America East Conference Tournament, earning a first round bye. #1 UMBC will meet #5 Northeastern (9-7-3, 4-4-1 AEC), a 3-0 winner at #4 Boston University on Wednesday evening.
UMBC opened its America East schedule at Northeastern on September 28, and the two teams played to a 2-2 tie. Junior forward Derek McElligott scored both Retriever goals to erase a pair of one-goal deficits, including the game-tying goal with 3:14 remaining.
The championship game is set for the weekend of November 15-16 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Maine earned its way into the tournament as the #6 seed by virtue of its win over UMBC on Saturday. They will take on #3 Hartford, with the winner advancing to take on #2 Binghamton on Saturday.
