MEN'S SOCCER TO TAKE ON #4 OLD DOMINION IN NORFOLK ON WEDNESDAY

9/23/2003

The UMBC men’s soccer team (4-0-2) will take on #4 Old Dominion (6-0-0) in a non-conference match-up tonight in Norfolk, VA. The Retrievers, ranked #6 in the South Atlantic region (ODU is #2, behind #1 nationally-ranked Maryland) are coming off a 1-1 double overtime tie vs. Delaware on Saturday, while the Monarchs knocked off #5 Wake Forest, 2-0 in their last outing. ODU has not allowed a goal this season, outscoring their opponents, 15-0, and also claiming # 19 Cal and #5 Stanford amongst their victims.

Notes: UMBC matched last year’s longest unbeaten streak at six with Saturday’s draw with Delaware…the Retrievers have won four straight road games, dating back to last season…JR F Derek McElligott is ranked second in the South Atlantic region with five goals in six games…he now has 29 career goals, and is tied with J.J. Kremer (1992-95) for seventh place on UMBC’s all-time list…despite his third ACL tear, senior captain Justin Nall will attempt to return to the lineup in early October…Nall, who received a medical redshirt season in 1999, suffered the injury vs. Loyola on September on September 7.
