Named 2002 “Most Improved Player” as he finished second on the team in scoring...did not have a point entering the season...earned Second Team All Northeast Conference honors...Mike and brother Matt (1998-2000) became the fourth set of brothers (Marchicas, McKelveys, Nortons) to play for UMBC.
2002-One of just three Retrievers to start all 20 games, after making just 16 previous appearances...his first collegiate goal turned out to be the GWG in UMBC’s 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb in the second game of the campaign...tallied in the next contest vs. Loyola, and recorded an assist in each of UMBC’s triumphs at the Mt. St. Mary’s Tournament...set up Derek McElligott for the GWG in a 1-0 OT win over St. Peter’s and earned All Tournament Team honors...also recorded goals vs. Howard and LIU.
2001-Saw action in eleven games for the Retrievers, recording one shot.
2000-Appeared in five games for UMBC, and recorded a pair of shots.
BACKGROUND: A highly-decorated player from Calvert Hall HS...capped his career by earning First Team All Metro honors as a senior and was named the Cardinals’ MVP...was also selected to Second Team All State...scored the lone goal of the All State All-Star game...lists his favorite book as Hangtime...has continued to play despite bothersome arthritic condition...son of Kathleen and Richard Joseph...born August 6, 1982.
