Despite a delayed start and battles with injuries during the campaign, he was an impressive rookie for the Retrievers...led the team with 6 assists, five in league play...possesses good speed and excellent field sense.

2002-Made his debut in the Battle of Baltimore Tournament and fed Marco Angelini for a game-tying goal vs. Loyola...missed four straight games in September with leg injury, but returned to contribute assists in four straight NEC contests....UMBC was 3-0-1 in those games...McGowan earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors after his feeds to Mike Pennachia and Derek McElligott gave UMBC 1-0 wins at Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut.
