2009: Recorded 13 assists, which is now tied for the second-most in a single season at UMBC and the most since Ty Engram posted 13 helpers in 1999… Produced 43 points, fifth-most in school history, and 15 goals, tied (with teammate Andrew Bulls) for sixth-most… Opened the season with a pair of three-point efforts (1-1-3) in wins over Virginia Tech (Sept. 1) and Delaware (Sept. 4) before posting his first career multiple-goal game with a two-goal, single-assist effort vs. St. Joseph’s (Sept. 6)… Earned All-Tournament team honors as he assisted on all three Retrievers’ goals in the 3-1 win over St. Francis (Pa.) in the adidas Kick-Off Classic… It was UMBC’s first three-assist effort since Powell Cucchiella posted four vs. NJIT in 2004… Recorded the program’s first three-goal game in three years in a 3-0 shutout over Drexel (Sept. 19)… Earned College Soccer News’ and Soccer America’s Team of the Week honors and America East Player of the Week accolade for games played Sept. 14-20… Produced his second three-goal game of the campaign in a 5-1 win over Albany on Oct. 24 and was named America East Player of the Week and ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for games played Oct. 19-25… Became the first Retriever to post multiple hat-tricks in a season since Derek McElligott posted a pair in 2001… His seven-point effort vs. the Great Danes is the most for a Retriever since McElligott tallied seven vs. Central Connecticut on Sept. 28, 2001… Scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute as the fifth-seeded Retrievers handed Binghamton their first home loss of the season in the America East quarterfinals on Nov. 7… Assisted on UMBC’s first goal of that game for his ninth multiple-point effort of the season and earned Top Drawer Soccer.com’s Team of the Week for games played Nov. 2-9...Named First-Team All-Tournament in the United Soccer League's Super-20 Men’s Tournament held at Sportscore II in Rockford, Ill., July 30 through Aug. 2... The D.C. United forward tied tournament MVP John Tardy for the most goals in the competition with four.
2008: Competed in all of UMBC’s contests for the second consecutive season, starting 15 of 17… Scored in the 35th minute of the campaign against Saint Mary’s and assisted on Dustin Dzwonkowski’s game-winning goal vs. Lipscomb in the Retrievers’ third game, but was held off the scoreboard in the final 15 contests… Finished second on the team with 29 shots and tied for second with 12 on goal.
2007: In his collegiate debut, scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute as UMBC opened the campaign with a 2-1 win over Air Force... Posted another game-winning goal, tallying UMBC’s first score in the 4-0 conference-opening victory over Stony Brook... Added his third and final score of the year to give UMBC a 1-0 lead over UNH in the home finale... Finished third on the team with 26 shots.
BACKGROUND: Majoring in financial economics... Speedy striker was a First-Team All-State selection and a First-Team All-Metro honoree, the latter accolade chosen by The Washington Post… Amassed 38 goals in his junior and senior seasons… Also earned top honors from The Gazette and The Examiner newspapers… Played on some excellent Wolverine teams, highlighted by two regional-final appearances and a No. 2 ranking by The Washington Post in 2005… Scored four goals and added two assists in a win over Springbrook in 2006… The native of the Ivory Coast is a Maryland Olympic Development Program player and competes for the Potomac Cougars club team… Also lettered in track and field in 2006 and competed in state finals in 4 x 200m relay… An honor roll student… Enjoys playing the drums and the gospel music of Michael Smith… Older brother Michel competed in soccer for UDC… Has two younger siblings, Joel and Sara… Son of Therese and Emmanuel Houapeu… Aquilas Levi Houapeu was born on June 22, 1989.
