2007: Named to America East Conference All Rookie Team... In his collegiate debut, scored the game winning goal in the 73rd minute as UMBC opened the campaign with a 2-1 win over Air Force... Posted another game-winning goal, tallying UMBC’s first score in the 4-0 conference-opening win over Stony Brook... Added his third and final score of the year to give UMBC a 1-0 lead over UNH in the home finale... Third on the team with 26 shots.
BACKGROUND: Speedy striker was a first- team All-State selection and a first team All-Metro honoree, the latter honor chosen by The Washington Post… Amassed 38 goals in his junior and senior seasons… Also earned top honors from The Gazette and The Examiner newspapers… Played on some excellent Wolverine teams, highlighted by two regional-final appearances and a No. 2 ranking by The Washington Post in 2005… Scored four goals and added two assists in a win over Springbrook in 2006… The native of the Ivory Coast is a Maryland Olympic Development player and competes for the Potomac Cougars club team… Also lettered in track and field in 2006 and competed in state finals in 4 x 200 relay… An honor roll student… Enjoys playing the drums and the (gospel) music of Michael Smith… Older brother Michel competed in soccer for UDC… Has two younger siblings, Joel (17) and Sara (7)… Considered schools such as Loyola (Md.), Hofstra and Missouri State, but selected UMBC “because I saw the coaches were great, they can teach me a lot and UMBC is a good academic school”… Son of Therese and Emmanuel Houapeu… Aquilas Levi Houapeu was born on June 22, 1989.
