Background: A highly-decorated player from North Carolina who was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Clayton… started every game for the Comets in four seasons… captained his team in ’05 and ’06 and guided the Comets to a 23-3 season last fall… earned All Conference honors in all four varsity seasons and was a North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association regional selection in 2004… named the Comets’ MVP in his freshman campaign… scored nine career goals and added six assists from his left fullback position… has outstanding size and speed, as he medaled in both the 100 and 200 meters in track and field in his lone campaign last spring… a state academic scholar…  father Mike earned eight letters in soccer and lacrosse at UMBC from 1974-1978 and was a three-time All Mason-Dixon Conference honoree… considered schools such as N.C. State and Drexel, but selected UMBC because “I knew I’d have outstanding academic opportunities, I really liked the coaches and I thought it would be a great challenge to carve my own footprints in the UMBC pitch, rather than following in my dad’s”… considering a major in Financial Economics… plays the guitar and enjoys the music of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin… has an older sister, Katelyn, 19, and a younger brother, Matthew, 15, who plays soccer at Clayton… son of Sue and Mike Gutowski… Michael Andrew Gutowski was born on March 10, 1989.
