Is expected to be the Retriever starter for the third consecutive year...has moved into a tie for third place on UMBC’s all-time shutouts list with 13 and is in ninth place on UMBC’s all-time saves list with 124.
2004- Performed at a consistent level throughout the season...made 4 second half saves, several of a challenging nature, in the 2-1 win at N.C. State...tied a career high with 8 saves in 3-1 loss at Virginia...allowed just 2 goals in 605 minutes of action at home last season...recorded solo shutouts of George Washington, Vermont, Northeastern, and Hartford, all at UMBC Soccer Stadium...named team’s 2004 “Unsung Hero.”
2003-Became first goalkeeper in school’s Division I history to play every minute of every game in a single season...had appeared in only 1 game in two seasons previously...his 0.93 GAA was the fourth-best single season mark in UMBC’s Division I history...recorded shutout in his first three starts of the year, and did not allow a goal in his first 395 of collegiate action...named to All Tournament Team of adidas Kick Off Classic with 0 goals allowed in 200 minutes of work...permitted 12 goals over UMBC’s next 8 games, but blanked four of UMBC’s next five opponents, and put together a run of 272 minutes without allowing a goal...registered 8 saves in a 2-0 loss to 4th-ranked Old Dominion...recorded an assist on a Derek McEligott go-ahead goal vs. Binghamton...his eight shutouts tied Brian Rowland for the second highest single season figure in UMBC’s Division I history.
2002-Recorded a shutout in his lone apperance, a 1-0 blanking of St. Peter’s in UMBC’s title game win at the Mt. St. Mary’s Tournament.
2001- Did not appear in any games during the campaign.
BACKGROUND: Earned PBHS’s Scholar Athlete, Minds in Motion, and Honor Roll awards during his tenure...competed with the Maryland State team, and saved a breakaway chance and two penalty kicks in a win over Eastern New York...perservered and made the state team in his sixth try, and also earned a spot in the regional pool for two years...an accomplished guitarist who is a fan of Bob Marley...plans to major in Computer Science...brother Brian, a forward, earned letters for UMBC in 1999 and 2000...chose UMBC “because of the computer/engineering programs and the opportunity to play soccer...son of Michele and Nicholas Marchica...born May 24, 1983.
