2001-Earned Team’s Unsung Hero Award...finished 12th in the South Atlantic region with a 1.33 goals against average...started all but one game, UMBC’s final regular season game in deference to senior Tom Wunk...recorded shutouts vs. Delaware, Central Connecticut and St. Francis (PA), and shared one with Wunk vs. Monmouth...recorded a season-high six saves in blanking of Central...did not allow a goal in four overtime contests last season (2-0-2).
2000-Set a school record with eight shutouts...led the NEC in goalkeeping with a 0.96 average and was ranked 5th in the South Atlantic Region...started the season a bit tentatively, allowing eight goals in his first four appearances, but then rattled off four straight shutouts to begin the Retrievers’ five-game winning streak...started that stretch with a five-save effort in a 2-0 blanking of Maryland...did not allow a goal for 397 consecutive minutes through five games...made a season-high eight saves at Quinnipiac...also posted back-to-back road shutouts over Monmouth and St. Francis (NY) and then blanked Mt. St. Mary’s in the regular season finale and St. Francis (NY) in the NEC semis in must-win games for UMBC...went 439 minutes without allowing a goal until FDU’s Dirceu Hurtado posted the GWG in the 63rd minute of the NEC title game.
1999: Challenged for and eventually won the starting netminder’s
position...started the final five games of the season, allowing 1 goal in two games of the NEC Tournament and blanking Lafayette for 150 minutes (4 OT, 6 saves) in the NCAA Play-In game...was outstanding in defeat at Duke, with a career-high nine saves and aggressive play which thwarted other Blue Devil chances...registered a shutout in his first college start, a 2-0 win over San Diego State...also blanked Howard, 4-0, subbing for an ill Tom Wunk...stopped a penalty kick vs. LIU.
BACKGROUND: A member of both the under-18 and under-20 Team Canada squads...included in the Canadian Olympic Team Pool...also lettered in ice hockey at York Memorial...father Barry, played in the CFL, while other siblings David and Krista each ran Division I cross country and track ...was also recruited by Maryland...son of Barbara and Barry Rowland...born December 30, 1980.
