The presence of former Retriever standout Anthony Adams as assistant men’s soccer coach has paid huge dividends to the UMBC Soccer Program. Adams was named one of the nation’s top assistant coaches by collegesoccernews.com. “Anthony has contributed so much to the program,” said Caringi. “I’ve really enjoyed working with him both as a player and as a coach. He is one of the great up-and-coming coaches in the country.” Adams earned four letters for UMBC from 1992-1995, and was a starter in the backfield in his final three seasons. The Baltimore native (Calvert Hall) has been an extremely successful coach at the club level. As coach of the Soccer Club of Baltimore, he has coached four different teams to a total of six state cups and one regional title during his seven-year tenure. In 2001, the the Baltimore Stars advanced to the U.S. Amateur Soccer Association Region I championship. A win would have sent the Stars, the under-19 state champs, to the U.S. Amateur Soccer Association's National Amateur Cup. Adams holds a U.S.S.F. “A” license and is an under-23 staff coach with the Olympic Developmental Program. Adams earned a B.A. degree in History and a certificate in Secondary Education from UMBC in 1997. Adams earned the 1995 Retriever Club Scholarship Award, given each year to a junior student-athlete who demonstrates academic and athletic excellence and a commitment to UMBC’s community service program.
