Men’s Soccer Continues Home Stand Against College of Charleston in UMBC/Navy Classic on Friday

Baltimore, Md. – UMBC men's soccer continues their season opening home stand as they welcome College of Charleston to Retriever Soccer Park on Friday, August 31 for a 7:00 pm kickoff. The Retrievers are coming off a back and forth 3-2 win over Rutgers, where sophomore Cesare Marconi (Loano, Italy) scored his first two goals as a Retriever.

Scouting the Retrievers:

-UMBC is coming off a a 3-2 victory against Rutgers on Monday night. The Retrievers scored all three goals in the second half, with Cesare Marconi (Loano, Italy) getting UMBC on the board in the 52' off a free kick, followed by a Rutgers own goal in the 67', and then the game winner in the 72' by Marconi again.

-Marconi leads the team with a pair of goals and one assist for a team best five points. He has taken six shots so far this year, with all six going on goal. Fresh­man Jackson Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) has scored the only other goal for UMBC, providing the game winner against Temple.

-Sophomore Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) has seen every minute in net for the Retrievers, post­ing one shutout. He has made four saves, giving up two goals in two wins.

Scouting the Cougars:

-College of Charleston is coming off a 2-1 victory over Stetson at the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic this past weekend. Stetson scored first in the 11', before the Cougars scored a goal in each half to earn the win.

-Tucker Heffron and Jake Nicholson both scored, with each taking two shots during the game. Treston Kederer earned his first win of the season, spending all 90 minutes in goal and picking up four saves.

All Time Series:

-This will be the first meeting between UMBC and College of Charleston.
