Kahsai Named to All-Conference First Team; Four Retrievers Honored on America East All-Conference Team

2017 America East All-Conference Lists

Boston, Mass.—UMBC men's soccer placed four players on various America East All-Conference lists, the conference announced Friday. Senior Sammy Kahsai (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) led the way, earning a spot on the All-Conference First Team.

The senior midfielder earns his first all-conference nod, after having a career-best season in 2017. He has scored four goals with two assists for ten points, converting both penalty kicks he has taken. Kahsai is tied for the team lead in goals and is second in points.

Classmate Gregg Hauck (Linthicum, Md./North County) earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team, his second all-conference honor of his career. Hauck leads the team with four goals and three assists for 11 points. He also leads the Retrievers with 46 shots and 21 shots on goal. Hauck was named to the All-Conference First Team in 2015.

A pair of Retrievers earned spots on the All-Rookie Team. Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) and Matt Bailey (Stevensville, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) earned honors for their play this season. O'Loughlin has started every game for the Retrievers in between the pipes this season, allowing 22 goals for a goals-against-average of 1.31. He has made 59 saves, posting four shutouts. Bailey played in 15 matches, making two starts in his first season. He recorded two assists for two points with 11 shots.

Robin Schmidt of New Hampshire won Striker of the Year, while Jakov Basic and Ivan Blaskic of UMass Lowell earned Midfielder and Defender of the Year. Aron Runarsson of Vermont and Noah Luescher of Binghamton were named Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year. Marc Hubbard and his staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year after staying in the nation rankings all year, losing just twice, once to UMBC.

The fifth-seeded Retrievers (7-6-4) will open the America East Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. No. 4 Albany (12-4-1).
