UMBC Men’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Hartford on Saturday Night
West Hartford, Conn.— UMBC men's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Hartford on Saturday night. Ryan Innes scored in the 72nd minute to lift the Hawks past the Retrievers and drop UMBC to 7-5-4, 2-3-1 AE on the year. 
 
Hartford moves to 5-9-3, 1-4-1 AE on the year, outshooting the Retrievers 21-5 on the evening. 
 
The Hawks struck first in 72nd minute, getting a goal from Ryan Innes. Innes tapped in a shot from five yards out off an assist from Michael Balzan. 
 
UMBC had a corner kick under a minute to go, but the Hawks kept the Retrievers at bay to hold on for a 1-0 victory.  
 
Hartford had all of the chances early in the match, outshooting the Retrievers 10-2 in the opening stanza.  
 
The Retrievers had a chance in the 22nd minute, but a shot from senior Tom Paul (Stalybridge, Cheshire, England) was saved by Jimmy Slayton, one of his two saves on the night. The only other UMBC shot on goal came in the 67th minute, when Jordan Dove (Gambrills, Md./DeMatha) put a shot on target, but Slayton once again made the save.
 
The Hawks outshot the Retrievers, 21-5 as freshman keeper Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) made five saves on the night. 
 
UMBC closes out the regular season against Stony Brook at Retriever Soccer Park at 7 p.m. The team will honor four seniors in a ceremony prior to the game.
