UMBC Men’s Soccer Welcomes Delaware in Final Non-Conference Match on Tuesday

Baltimore, Md.— UMBC men's soccer will close out the non-conference schedule against Delaware on Tuesday at Retriever Soccer Park. The Retrievers are coming off a 3-1 win against defending America East Champion Albany last Saturday. A trio of Retrievers scored goals, for the first time since the team defeated West Virginia by the same score on September 13.

Scouting the Retrievers (7-3-3):

-UMBC enters the midweek matchup with the Blue Hens after taking down defending America East Champion Albany on Saturday. The Retrievers got goals from Sammy Kahsai (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern), James Gielen (Edgewater, Md./DeMatha) and Tre Pulliam (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) in the victory.

-A trio of Retrievers have put four goals home this year. Gregg Hauck (Linthicum, Md./North County) leads the team with four goals and two assists for ten points. Kahsai and Kyle Saunderson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) have also scored four with one assist for nine points. In all, nine different Retrievers have scored this year.

-Freshman Ciaran O'Loughlin (Birkenhead, England) has started and played in every game this year for the Retrievers, allowing just 15 goals for a goals against average of 1.15. He has made 44 saves (.746 save percentage) with four shutouts.

Scouting the Blue Hens (5-5-2):

-The Blue Hens come in at 5-5-2 on the year, having most recently played against James Madison last Wednesday. The Dukes came away with a 2-1 win in CAA play, getting the game winner with just under four minutes to play.

-Delaware is led by Fede Prieto on offense, who leads the team with four goals and one assist for nine points. Thibault Philippe has netted two goals, while John Schroeder and Ryan Mertz have a team best three assists each.

-Former Retriever Todd Morton has started and played every minute in net for Delaware. He has given up 12 goals for a 0.98 goals against average, while making 45 saves with four shutouts.

All-Time Series:

-The Retrievers and Blue Hens will be meeting for the 27th time in the all-time series, with UMBC holding a 15-8-3 lead in the series. This will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2014 when the Retrievers won 1-0 in Newark.

-UMBC is 6-3-1 all-time in games played in Baltimore, with the last game played at Retriever Soccer Park coming back in 2013.

Record Breaking:

-UMBC staff, students and fans packed the bleachers and hill at Retriever Soccer Park on Tuesday, September 26 to watch No. 1 Maryland take on the Retrievers. A total of 3,766 fans saw the Retrievers and Terrapins finish in a 1-1 draw.

-The previous attendance record was set earlier this year, when 2,873 fans saw the Retrievers and Howard Bison battle on August 28.
