Men's Soccer's Unbeaten Streak Halted at Navy

Annapolis, Md. – The UMBC men's soccer team's four-game unbeaten streak was halted, as the Retrievers fell at Navy, 2-0, in damp conditions at the Glenn Warner Soccer Complex.

UMBC slips to 6-5-3 on the season, while Navy remains unbeaten in six straight and improves to 9-4-2.

The Mids struck twice in a three-minute span early in the game. Both goals were scored by junior forward Jamie Dubyoski, as he took advantage of Retriever errors in their defensive third to score on semi-breakaways in the 10th and 13th minutes of play.

The Retrievers cleaned things up in the final 45 minutes, but could not cash in on their better opportunities. Senior midfielder Geaton Caltabiano (Lothian, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) had a 20-yard free kick from the center of the pitch, but he sailed his attempt over the net in the 60th minute.

Senior back Marquez Fernandez (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) moved up and fired a shot from 23 yards out which just missed wide left eight minutes later.

Navy outshot UMBC, 17-8, and red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper Billy Heavner (Landisville, Pa.) made five saves in the game. Heavner (3-1-1) suffered his first collegiate loss in the game.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak by UMBC versus the Midshipmen.

UMBC returns to America East action for its final four games of the regular season, starting with Saturday's contest at New Hampshire.
