Men's Soccer Wraps Up Spring Campaign, Celebrates a Year of Honors
BALTIMORE- The men's soccer program wrapped up its 2014 spring campaign with its annual Alumni Soccer Weekend. The weekend of April 25-26 included the Alumni Golf Tournament at Diamond Ridge Golf Course on Friday, April 25th and the Alumni Game on Saturday, the 26th.
"It was a great weekend as we're always excited to have our alumni back," said head coach Pete Caringi, Jr.. "They've given us great support over the years. Each year, the annual Alumni Soccer Weekend has continued to grow and is one of the highlights of the year for our program."
Fifty-two former Retrievers returned to UMBC for the festivities. They are listed here with their years of competition.

Justin Nall's team earned first place in the golf tournament.
The event capped off a tremendous 2013-14 year for UMBC soccer. The 2013 squad was nationally-ranked throughout the season, captured their third America East title in four years and become UMBC's first team to host an NCAA Tournament contest. Three players, junior back Oumar Ballo and seniors Pete Caringi III and Kadeem Dacres earned NSCAA All-America honors and the latter pair are competing professionally.
Head Coach Pete Carnigi, Jr. and his staff earned America East Coaching Staff of the Year honors and Caringi, Jr. was named NSCAA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year.
In the spring, UMBC soccer held its second annual "Kicks for Chase" fund-raiser supporting families impacted by Down Syndrome. The event raised over $1,500 and the Retrievers edged 2013 national finalist Maryland, 2-1, in a "friendly" competition.
Caringi added to his UMBC resumé as he was named UMBC's Outstanding Male Athlete for 2013-14. while team awards went to Kadeem Dacres (Most Outstanding Athlete), Mamadou Kansaye (Mike Woodard Unsung Hero Award), Stephen Ho (Most Improved Athlete) and Greg Hauck (Ed Veit Freshman of the Year Award),
Phil Saunders and Pete Caringi III shared the Tom Rider Award for the senior that contributes the most to the program. In a new honor, The Coaches' Award, juniors Marquez Fernandez, Geaton Caltabiano and Spencer Williams were tabbed as student-athletes who exemplify the highest standards on the field and in the classroom.
Matt Velky and Ted Tibert were given the John Ellinger Award for supporters who exemplify passion for the program.
Morever, for the second consecutive year and seventh overall in his 17 seasons at UMBC, associate head coach Anthony Adams was selected as one of the nation's top assistant soccer coaches by CollegeSoccerNews.com. He was amongst 15 coaches honored by the website.
