Veteran Striker Kay Banjo, Freshman Goalie Todd Morton to Join Men's Soccer for Fall 2014 Campaign

BALTIMORE – Veteran collegian Olakunle "Kay" Banjo and newcomer Todd Morton will join the UMBC men's soccer program in the fall of 2014, head coach Pete Caringi announced today.

Banjo enjoyed three outstanding campaigns for Towson University from 2010-12. The 6'0", 160-lb. forward scored 15 goals and added 11 assists in 43 games for the Tigers. An outstanding goalkeeping prospect as an incoming freshman, Morton (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) stands 6'3" and weighs 185 lbs. Morton started on the varsity for three seasons and competes with the Penn Fusion Soccer Academy.

Towson University discontinued its men's soccer program after the 2012 campaign. Banjo, a native of Upper Marlboro, Md., (Largo HS) is expected to complete his degree at Towson in sports management in the summer of 2014 and enroll as a degree-seeking student at UMBC in the fall.

Banjo was selected as a First Team All-CAA performer in 2012, becoming the eighth player in school history to be named to the All-CAA first team. The striker recorded two of four goals and three of four assists in league play that fall and finished fifth in the CAA with 3.14 shots per game.

In 2011, Banjo, a Third-Team All CAA selection, scored four goals and added two assists, including a two-goal, one-assist effort versus America East foe Albany. He got his career off in spectacular style in 2010, scoring seven goals and adding five assists and earning CAA All-Rookie Team and Second Team honors.

Morton captained his Henderson HS side in 2012 and 2013. He posted 14 shutouts in his final campaign and recorded a 0.77 goals against average. The netminder earned First Team All-Chestmont and First Team All-Area honors from The Philadelphia Inquirer after his senior season.

He also earned letters in tennis and basketball during his tenure for the Warriors.

The Retrievers are expected to welcome back 22 letterwinners and eight starters from the 2013 America East championship squad.
