The UMBC men's soccer team will attempt to capture a Springhill Suites Arundel Mills BWI Kick-Off Classic title when they welcome UNLV to Retriever Soccer Park on Sunday, Sept. 1. The game will be one of UMBC's two home afternoon affairs in 2013 as kick-off will take place at 1:00 p.m. The Retrievers opened with a 3-1 victory over Seattle U. on Friday, while the Rebels dropped a 3-1 decision at Delaware. RECAP:  Pete Caringi III scored twice in the first 24 minutes of play, leading the Retrievers to a 3-1 victory over Seattle U. in the season opener for both squads in the Spring Hill Suites Arundel Mills BWI Kick-Off Classic on Aug. 30. Senior midfielder Kadeem Dacres and junior midfielder Geaton Caltabiano added a pair of assists and junior midfielder Mamadou Kansaye tallied an insurance marker in the 84th minute.

Caringi posted his fifth multiple-goal game of his career when he tallied twice in a 15-minute span in the 3-1 victory over Seattle U. on Aug. 30. He now has 28 career goals and is one shy of moving into a tie for tenth place (J.J. Kremer, 29, 1992-95) on UMBC's all-time list.

INSIDE THE SERIES: This will be the fourth meeting between the Retrievers and the Rebels, but the first in Baltimore. UMBC has won all three prior encounters in Las Vegas by one goal apiece. The Retrievers triumphed, 3-2, in overtime in 1994, 1-0 in 1999 and 2-1 in 2006.

A GLANCE AT THE REBELS: UNLV was held to seven shots total in a 3-1 loss at Delaware in the season opener for both teams in college men's soccer action on Friday night at UD Mini-Stadium.

Trailing, 2-0, UNLV got on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute thanks to a score from senior Joaquin Rivas, off an assist from sophomore Rodrigo Fuentes. That cut the edge to 2-1, but the Blue Hens would go back ahead by two scores in the 80th minute on a score by Kyle Bruno.

Delaware held a 23-7 edge on shots in the game, and 7-2 on corner kicks. Joe Vitale finished with five saves in goal for UNLV.

Under fourth-year head coach Rich Ryerson, UNLV posted a 6-14-1 mark in 2012 and returns seven starters for this season. Junior forward Salvador Bernal, the 2011 MPSF Newcomer of the Year, led the Rebels with eight goals and 21 points in 2012.

The Rebels were selected to finish third in the preseason poll by Western Athletic Conference coaches.
