Cambridge, Mass. - UMBC sophomore midfielder Pat Young (Ewing, N.J./Christchurch (Va.)) School) was named America East Conference Co-Player of the Week for games ending April 12.
Young shares the award with Albany senior attackman Miles Thompson, who scored five goals in a victory over Stony Brook.
The 2013 America East Rookie of the Year and First Team midfielder scored four of his career-high five goals in the fourth quarter as UMBC staved off a Hartford rally and defeated the Hawks, 16-11, in a crucial league contest.
Young, who is second on the squad with 22 goals on the season, has scored at least one point in 22 consecutive games and 25 of his 26 career appearances. He has 11 goals in three America East contests this season, 25 scores in eight career league contests and 12 goals in three career games versus the Hawks.
Young is UMBC's first recipient of the season. Freshmen attackman Max Maxwell (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and red-shirt freshman netminder Connor Gordon (Bourne, Mass./Tabor Acad.) have earned Rookie of the Week awards in 2014.
UMBC (6-5, 2-1 America East) takes on defending league champion Albany (6-5, 3-0 AE) on the Retrievers' Senior Day on Saturday, April 19. The opening face-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
