Cambridge, Mass. – UMBC freshman attackman Max Maxwell (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) was named America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for games ending Feb. 23, 2014.
Maxwell scored his first three career goals, all in the second half, in UMBC's 10-8 victory over Monmouth on Feb. 22. He scored game-tying and go-ahead scores in the third quarter and recorded UMBC's ninth goal, credited as the game-winner, with 10:45 remaining in the contest.
Maxwell, who scored the three goals on just four shots versus the Hawks, has started both games to date on the Retriever attack. The two-time high school All-American from western New York amassed over 100 goals and 80 assists in his junior and senior seasons at Hamburg.
The Retrievers (1-1) return home to welcome Richmond on Saturday, March 1 with a 1:00 p.m. opening face-off.
