Men's Lacrosse to Compete at Capital Lacrosse Invitational on Oct. 13; Scrimmage Versus Navy Postponed
The UMBC men's lacrosse program would like to announce two alterations to its 2013 fall scrimmage schedule. The Retrievers' home scrimmage versus Navy, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, has been postponed. The two institutions will attempt to compete on Saturday, Oct. 19 at UMBC Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
In addition, The Mario St. George Boiardi Foundation is pleased to announce that UMBC will be competing in the Second Annual Capital Lacrosse Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 13th, 2013. The Retrievers round out a field of four elite Division I lacrosse programs which also includes Bucknell University, Lehigh University, and Penn State University. The free youth lacrosse clinic and games take place at the Landon School in Bethesda.
Head Coach Don Zimmerman leads a UMBC squad that reached the America East conference championship game in the spring of 2013 and features 26 returning players.
"UMBC is excited to participate in the Second Annual Capital Fall Invitational," said UMBC Head Coach Don Zimmerman. "It is an honor to play the game of lacrosse in memory of Mario St. George Boiardi, a young man who embodied those selfless character traits that will forever serve as an example to all us fortunate enough to be associated with the great game of lacrosse - coaches, players, officials, parents and fans. We look forward to joining our brothers at Bucknell, Lehigh and Penn State - "Four Teams, One Cause"- and thank the Foundation for this wonderful opportunity."
The event schedule for the day is as follows:
8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. - Free Lacrosse Clinic
10:30 a.m.- 12 p.m.- UMBC vs. Bucknell; Penn State vs. Lehigh
12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m.- UMBC vs. Lehigh; Bucknell vs. Penn State
The Boiardi Foundation is excited to have a fourth great program participating in the 2013 Capital Lacrosse Invitational, and is thrilled to have been able to add a local team to the round robin.In addition to the participating teams, the Boiardi Foundation would like to thank Under Armour and Trilogy Lacrosse, who will assist with the free youth lacrosse clinic, and sponsors Brown Advisory, Marymount University, The Shooshan Company, Sport Automotive, The View Apartments, and Volunteers of America.
