Cambridge, Mass.- UMBC freshman midfielder Pat Young (Ewing, N.J./Christchurch (Va.) School) has been named America East Conference Men's Lacrosse Rookie-of-the-Week for games ending April 13, 2013.
Young scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning goal with 2:39 remaining as UMBC defeated Stony Brook, 13-12.
Both of his goals occurred in the second half and both gave the Retrievers one-goal leads. The Retrievers only led three times- at 3-2, 8-7 and the final margin.
Young has 12 points (8-4-12) in three America East Conference games and the starting midfielder is second on the squad in scoring with 28 points (22-6-28). He is tied for fourth with 4.00 points per game in league play and is ninth with 2.55 points per game in all contests.
Young joins classmate attackman Nate Lewnes (Arnold, Md./St. Mary's) as Retrievers to earn the league's Rookie-of-the-Week honor in 2013. His 22 goals is the most for a Retriever freshman since Cayle Ratcliffe scored 42 goals in 2007.
