Cambridge, Mass.- UMBC sophomore attackman Scott Jones (Port Coquitlam, B.C./Terry Fox) was named America East Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for games ending April 17, 2011.
Jones recorded a career high five goals on seven shots in Saturday’s 13-9 conference win at Albany. Four of Jones' five goals occurred in the fourth quarter, including three consecutive scores in the final ten minutes when the game was knotted at 9-9.
Jones, who scored two goals in 12 games played as a freshman, leads the Retrievers in goals with 17. He has netted 12 goals and added two assists in his last six outings. His five goals scored is the most for a Retriever in 2011 and the most since Matt Latham scored six goals vs. Albany on April 17, 2010.
The victory over Albany was UMBC’s third in a row. The Retrievers improved to 2-1 in conference play and 5-5 overall and will entertain Vermont (6-6, 1-2) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the regular season home finale.
