Brendan Mundorf Named to FIL All-World Team as Team USA Captures World Lacrosse Title

Manchester, England—Former UMBC lacrosse standout Brendan Mundorf was named to the FIL All-World team after the United States defeated Canada, 12-10, to claim the 2010 World Championship.
Mundorf scored 17 goals in the six-game tournament and was one of three attackmen to earn a spot on the All-World team. Teammate Mike Leveille and Canada’s John Grant, Jr., were the other attackmen named.
Mundorf scored a pair of goals in the championship game. He scored with three seconds on a pinpoint blast into the top right corner of the net with remaining in the second quarter to give the US an 8-4 halftime advantage. But Canada stormed back to take a 9-8 lead in the fourth before Mundorf scored an (off) right-handed goal with 12:15 remaining to knot the score at nine-all.
Canada took a 10-9 lead before US reserve Ned Crotty netted the game-tying and go-ahead goals and Leveille sealed the victory with an empty net score with 1:19 remaining.
Attackman Drew Westervelt, another former Retriever, played, but did not hit the scoresheet in the title game. He scored 12 goals in his six-game stint with Team USA.
Team USA is now 4-0 in World Championship games when UMBC grads have suited up for the red, white and blue! (1982, ’86, ’90, 2010) Defenseman Gary Clipp won a title in 1982 and defender George McGeeney earned two championships in 1986 and 1990.
Mundorf and Westervelt will attempt to win a Major Lacrosse League title next month with the Denver Outlaws.
