Kyle Wimer Selected by Chesapeake Bayhawks in Tenth Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft
6/7/2010
New Haven, Conn.—UMBC midfielder Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was selected by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in Major League Lacrosse’s 10th annual Collegiate Draft held at Yale University on June 6.
Wimer was the first pick of fourth round and the 19th selection overall. The two-way midfielder just became the tenth player in school history to earn multiple All-America citations at the NCAA Division I level.
He will join former teammate and linemate Peet Poillon with an energized Bayhawks (3-1) team. Poillon, who served as an undergraduate assistant coach at UMBC this spring, is coming off a three-goal, two-assist effort in Chesapeake’s 17-14 win vs. Boston on Saturday and leads MLL with 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists).
The Bayhawks play their home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.
There are currently three other Retrievers on the active rosters of MLL teams. Midfielder Terry Kimener (2004-07) is a member of the Chicago Machine, while Team USA members Brendan Mundorf (2003-06) and Drew Westervelt (2004-07) are attackmen with the Denver Outlaws. 2009 graduate Alex Hopmann, a midfielder, is currently listed on the Outlaws’ inactive roster.
