Camardo, Davis, Wimer Named to USILA/Lax World North/South Game Squad

BALTIMORE—For the first time in its NCAA Division I history, three UMBC men’s lacrosse players have been selected to compete in the USILA /LaxWorld Men's Lacrosse North/South Game. Seniors Mike Camardo (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland), Maxx Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends) and Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) will take part in the annual contest which will take place at Goucher College on Friday, May 28 at 5:30 p.m.

Camardo was a two-time America East All-Conference Second-Team selection in 2008 and 2010 and earned Most Outstanding Player honors in the 2009 America East Conference Tournament. The long-stick defensive midfielder led the Retrievers this season in ground balls (54) and caused turnovers (36) and is currently ranked second in the nation in the latter category.

Davis earned All-Conference First-Team honors as a short-stick defensive midfielder this past season. He became the team’s top two-way player down the stretch, scoring ten of his 16 points (7-9-16) in the final three games of the campaign.

Wimer, one of ten finalists for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award in the sport of men’s lacrosse, led the 2010 Retrievers with 35 points (16-19-35). The midfielder completed his career at UMBC with 69 goals and 64 assists and his 133 career points currently ranks 15th in school history. He earned America East All-Conference First-Team honors in 2009 and 2010.

All three players competed in three NCAA Championships in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Thirty-five years ago, three UMBC student-athletes were tabbed to the South All-Star squad. Midfielders Dave Flick and Joe Provance and defender Bobby Ritz competed for UMBC head coach Dick Watts at the 1975 contest when the Retrievers competed at the NCAA Division II level.
