Men's Lacrosse Edged at Towson, 10-7

    Towson, Md.— Senior midfielder Kyle Wimer (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored a pair of goals and added two assists, but UMBC dropped a 10-7 decision at local foe Towson.

     

    UMBC never led in the game, but rallied from an 8-4 third quarter deficit to get within one. Wimer made a beautiful dodge and score with 8:51 remaining to trim the gap to 8-7, but the Tigers won the ensuing draw TU’s Tim Stratton scored 63 seconds later. He would add an insurance goal with 2:36 to play as Towson snapped a three-game losing streak to the Retrievers.

     

    Sophomore attackman Shane Ryznar (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) scored two goals for UMBC, while freshman attackman Joe Lustgarten (Wading River, N.Y.) added two assists.

     

    Freshman netminder Adam Cohen (Arnold, Md./Severn School) played all 60 minutes for UMBC and made a team season-high 12 saves.

     

    Towson jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Ryznar scored twice in the final 1:42 of the quarter to bring the Retrievers to within 3-2 after 15 minutes. The Tigers won four of five face-offs in the second quarter and extended the lead to 5-3. A pair of UMBC freshmen collaborated on the Retrievers’ lone goal of the stanza as Scott Jones (Port Moody, B.C.) converted a Joe Lustgarten (Wading River, N.Y.) feed on a man-up opportunity.

     

    Jones and classmate Nick Doub (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary’s) each scored their first collegiate goals in the contest and both were extra-man scores.

     

    Wimer has points in 27 consecutive games and has reached 122 points in his career.

     

    The Retrievers return to America East play on Saturday when they face Binghamton in Vestal, N.Y.
