Former Retriever standout Andy Gallagher has been named assistant men’s lacrosse coach at UMBC, it was announced today by head lacrosse coach Don Zimmerman. Gallagher will begin his duties on Nov. 9, 2009. "It's great to have Andy Gallagher back as an assistant coach at UMBC,” Zimmerman said. “During his playing career, Andy consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and a terrific feel for the game of lacrosse, playing the game with an incredible sense of passion and determination. The Retriever program is fortunate to have a person of Andy's character on board and looks forward to continued growth and development." Gallagher served as the Director of Student Activities and assistant boys’ lacrosse coach at his alma mater, The For his career, Gallagher recorded 98 goals and 146 points and is currently ranked 11th on UMBC’s all-time scoring list. He earned America East First Team honors as a sophomore midfielder in 2005 and second team recognition at attack in 2007.
