Poillon, Settembrino Named to South Squad for 68th Annual USILA North-South Game

5/19/2009

Peet Poillon led UMBC's potent offense in scoring this season with 47 points.

Perry, N.Y.--UMBC seniors Peet Poillon (Cranberry Township, Pa.) and Steve Settembrino (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) have been selected to compete on the South squad in the 68th annual United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association North-South game. The Division I/II contest will be played at Harvard Stadium on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.

Poillon, a midfielder, enjoyed a brilliant senior campaign for the Retrievers. The America East First-Team All-Conference performer led the team with 47 points, scoring 26 goals and adding a team-best 21 assists. The 2008 Ohio State All American was a two-time America East Player of the Week and scored multiple points in 23 of his 32 collegiate contests.

After competing in 35 games with no starts in his first three years at UMBC, Settembrino started at close defense in all 16 contests in his final campaign. He was a prime contributor on a defense that was ranked eighth in the nation in goals against average in the regular season and he finished second on the squad with eight caused turnovers.

Sixteen Retrievers have been selected to the South squad since 1999.
