Ryan Smith Named America East Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week; Retrievers Prep for Binghamton in League Semifinals on Wednesday Night at UMBC Stadium

Cambridge, Mass.--UMBC senior attackman Ryan Smith (Fallston, Md./Fallston/CCBC-Essex) was named America East Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week for games ending April 25, 2009.

 

Smith produced a season-high seven points with four goals and three assists on “Senior Day” in the Retrievers’ 18-5 victory over Vermont to clinch a share of the conference title. The 2008 All American scored three goals in UMBC’s first-half 8-0 run which gave the Retrievers a 9-2 halftime advantage. Smith, who started all 13 games after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL last spring,  tied senior midfielder Peet Poillon for the most goals (11) and points (15) for the Retrievers’ in league games.

 

He finished the regular season with 17 goals and 23 points.

 

The top-seeded Retrievers (10-3, 4-1 America East ) host fourth-seeded Binghamton (3-11, 2-3) in the conference semifinals on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
