3/23/2009

Cambridge, Mass.--UMBC senior midfielder Alex Hopmann (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) was named America East Conference Men’s Lacrosse co-Player of the Week for games ending March 22, 2009. Hopmann tied his career high with four goals, including the game-winner 1:16 into overtime in UMBC’s 9-8 pulsating win over Ohio State on March 21. He leads the team with 19 goals, including seven man-up scores to date. Hopmann has already matched his season point total of a year ago (21) and needs two goals to surpass his season best of 20 recorded in 2007. The team tri-captain has scored three or more goals in four games this season. Stony Brook’s Jordan McBride shared the honor with Hopmann, as the sophomore attackman amassed 10 goals in two games for the Seawolves. Eighth-ranked UMBC (5-2) will meet Stony Brook (3-3) in the conference opener at La Valle Stadium with the opening face-off set for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
