BALTIMORE—Senior midfielder Peet Poillon ( Poillon added three assists to finish with a career-best seven points in the game, while Wimer (3g, 1a) and freshman midfielder Rob Grimm (1g, 3a) tallied four points apiece. Rutgers scored the first three goals of the game, including a pair by attack Kory Kelly, before UMBC senior midfielder Alex Hopmann ( The Scarlet Knights scored the first goal of the second period to regain a three-goal advantage, but UMBC tallied six of the final seven goals of the half to take a 7-5 lead into the locker room. The Retrievers continued the run into the second half, five of the first six goals in the third period with two by Poillon and another two by junior attack Chris Jones ( The Retrievers scored the first four goals of the fourth period, including a pair by senior attack Ryan Smith (Fallston, Md./Fallston/CCBC-Essex) for a 16-7 advantage, but Kelly led the Scarlet Knights with four goals, while attack Jeff Rommel tallied four points on two goals and two assists. Senior goalie Jeremy Blevins ( UMBC converted on two of three extra-man opportunities and outshot the Scarlet Knights, 45-35. The Retrievers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 28, when they host Colgate at 1 p.m. at UMBC Stadium.
