Men's Lacrosse Opens NCAA Championships at Second-Seeded Virginia on Sunday, May 11

The UMBC men’s lacrosse team (12-3) is preparing to take on Virginia (12-3) in the first round of the NCAA Championships this Sunday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va. Fans may purchase by calling (800) 542-8821. Tickets can also be purchased online at virginiasports.com. Reserved seat tickets offering stadium chair seating under cover are $9 each; general admission tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth 18-and-under, seniors 60-and-over and students of participating schools with a valid student ID. Parking is $5. The Ticket Office encourages all fans to purchase and pick up their tickets in advance to avoid long ticket sales and Will Call lines on game day.
The Retrievers will appear in their third consecutive championship and fifth overall since 1998. UMBC earned its first victory in the Division I tournament last season with a 13-9 victory at Maryland last season.
UMBC earned an automatic bid with a thrilling 14-13 victory over Albany in the America East title game at UMBC Stadium on Saturday night. The Retrievers rallied from an 11-2 second half deficit.
The two teams have not met since 1996 with the Cavaliers holding a 12-2 series advantage. Virginia has won five straight decisions vs. UMBC, with the Retrievers’ last win occurring in 1986 (7-6).
The winner of the UMBC-Virginia contest will meet the winner of the Denver at No. 7 Maryland game in Annapolis, Md. the following weekend.
